From our articles series: Plants are not plastic
Passover is already around the corner and as part of the preparations, many of us are planning the look and decoration of the festive table.
For the hosts and hostesses who usually use flower bouquets, we have collected here a number of recommendations and tips, how to combine long-lasting plants to decorate the holiday table.
It is possible, of course, like many do, to place a flowering annual plant for a few days on the table (such as a begonia or a petunia for example) and then take it near the window or plant it in the garden as its permanent location.
In the coming list are small and medium-sized plants, which can decorate the festive table for months and even years with little care; Flowering houseplants such as African violets, Phalaenopsis orchids or Anthuriums can be placed at the center of the table or in a less lit corner for the flowering months and then moved near a well-lit window until they rebloom.
It is important to remember: when it comes to house plants, you must be careful with watering, since the great majority suffer from excess watering and not from drying out
When it comes to houseplants, one must be careful with watering, as the vast majority of them suffer from overwatering rather than drying out.
:Bright Indirect Light
(indirect light coming in from the windows of the house or even 1-2 hours of direct sunlight):
Under bright light, a shallow poty that combines several succulent (fleshy) plants with colorful leaves and symmetrical shapes can decorate the holiday table and thrive for months or even longer. A winning combination will include different leaf textures and shapes, playing with the colors (the variety is huge) and combining different shapes of succulents (low round with tall and erect, etc.).
It is important to water only when the soil is completely dry!
The blooms are large and full of color and one can combine different bloom colors: red, pink or white. The leaves are heart-shaped and shiny and add to the richness and color of the table.
With lots of light and careful watering they will bloom for months or even years.
Anthuriums can be grown in a small pot with minimal care.
:African Violets
These plants have a dense bloom at the center of the plant and a round and symmetrical structure.
They bloom for a long time in a variety of cold shades that go well with a bright tablecloth and ceramic and golden serving dishes.
At the end of the prolonged blooming, you can move it to the windowsill and wait for the next flash of flowers.
Caution: the leaves are slightly fragile.
:Calathea
The queen of colorful leaves, it likes watering and high air humidity. The Calathea is a spectacular decoration and thanks to its beautifully painted leaves, allows a perfect match to the table cloth.
Calatheas often fade a little after a few months but are a well worth choice, in our opinion, despite being a bit fussy.
:(Begonia x hiemalis (Rose Begonia
Rose begonia is a lush and beautiful bouquet of flowers, which will last about six months, but in excellent conditions, maybe even longer!

It is very sensitive to excess watering, so it should only be watered when the substrate dries out.
At the end of the meal, it should be placed in a well-lit corner. Direct morning sun is also possible.
